Join Macquarie’s dragon boating team and help beat breast cancer

Dragons Abreast Australia (DAA) is a national organisation made up of breast cancer survivors (and some very special supporters) of various ages and from a great variety of backgrounds, athletic abilities and interests.  Through the wonderful and strenuous sport of dragon boat racing, the organisation raises awareness for breast cancer survivors.

This year marks the ninth year of the event to be held at Darling Harbour. To get involved with the Macquarie team, contact Luke Cevolani and for more information about the event, visit the website.

Dragonboat racing sees participants racing – typically a over a 500-metre distance – in a 12-metre long canoe-like boat, wide enough to sit 20 people. Dragonboats feature the head and tail of a dragon, a mythological creature regarded by the Chinese as having dominion over the waters and exercising control over rainfall.

Last year, Macquarie University entered a joint team of students and staff, with the “Macquarie Kong Fu Dragons” raising $3243.
