From Cumulus to Canto: Our new and improved digital assets management system

In the past few years, Macquarie’s visual identity has become instantly recognisable thanks to the depth and diversity of images gathered by Macquarie’s photography and videography team.

More than 80,000 images are hosted in our Cumulus image database. Macquarie staff makes over 8,000 requests for images each year – for social media, newsletters, and other publications that showcase their work to the world.

Canto (the parent company of Cumulus) has announced the retirement of their Cumulus product to focus on cloud-based content management solutions. To stay ahead of this change and help meet the growing demand for photographic and video-based content, we recently transitioned from Cumulus to Canto.

Canto is more than an image library; it’s a world-leading cloud-based digital assets management system that offers a far more robust and simpler way to store, search, order, and share photos, video, and other visual assets.

There are a few changes to how you search for and download images, so we have developed a handy ‘How to Canto’ guide to help get you started.

All existing images on Cumulus have been migrated to Canto. Users can still request images from Cumulus, but we recommend everyone starts to familiarise themselves with our new Canto system.

New images will only be available on Canto from 1 October 2021 and Cumulus will no longer be available at Macquarie University from July 2022.
