The brand-new Computer-Delivered (CD) IELTS Test Centre has officially opened and is located on campus in the refurbished 8 Sir Christopher Ondaatje Avenue building.
The new facility includes a 24-seat computer testing laboratory and enables the centre to conduct the test online for the first time. With many of us opting for a keyboard more often than a pen and paper, the new computer-based examination enables the test to be delivered in a familiar environment and results delivered in half the time of the traditional paper-based tests. This structure also allows us to offer the test on additional days and is currently available every Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The centre will continue to offer paper-based tests every second Saturday for candidates who prefer this version.
As one of a small number of centres to offer the computer-delivered test outside of the Sydney CBD, we’re able to provide a close and convenient testing facility for the North and North-West Sydney communities, and with the opening of the new Metro line later this month, it’s never been more convenient to sit the test at Macquarie. Candidates taking the test at Macquarie have access to a range of preparation services including one-to-one tutoring and IELTS Online, a self-paced preparation course wholly owned by Macquarie University.
What is an IELTS Test?
The International English Language Testing System (IELTS) measures the language proficiency of people who want to study or work where English is used as a language of communication. It uses a nine-band scale to clearly identify levels of proficiency, from non-user (band score 1) through to expert (band score 9).
Conducted at over 1600 testing locations worldwide, the test is used by a wide range of candidates to demonstrate levels of English proficiency for migration, work and education purposes.
