New Dean of Medicine appointed

Professor Clement Loy has been appointed as the new Head of the Macquarie Medical School and Dean of Medicine for the Faculty of Medicine, Health and Human Sciences.

Professor Loy has had a distinguished career at Westmead Hospital as a Senior Staff Specialist and Professor at the University of Sydney.

Professor Loy undertook his initial medical education at the University of Sydney, graduating with a combined BA/MBBS followed by specialty training in cognitive neurology in Sydney and London. His PhD was undertaken at UNSW followed by an MBA at Macquarie University.

Over the past decade, Professor Loy has been central to the evolution of a quaternary referral service for patients requiring advanced specialty medical treatment, as well as a multidisciplinary clinic and research group to treat patients with Huntington’s Disease at Westmead Hospital.

Since 2020 he has been the Divisional Clinical Director/Medical Advisor for Medical Services at Westmead, where he has served on the Hospital Executive. In this role he provided strategic and operational leadership of clinical services across 15 internal medicine clinical specialties at one of Sydney’s largest teaching hospitals.

He will take up his appointment on 6 February 2023.
