The Great Book Swap

The Great Book Swap is back. If you have any books in need of a new home, please bring them to campus.

Macquarie University will celebrate Indigenous Literacy Day with a three-day book exchange commencing Tuesday 6 September. The event raises funds for the Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) and will re-ignite a tradition that commenced at Macquarie in 2018.

The Great Book Swap celebrates reading, promotes indigenous languages and culture and is a way of re-housing preloved books.

Fiction from the last five years, Australian fiction and children’s books in good condition are in demand. Educational books are not required because curriculums change so frequently.

Please drop books before September 6 at the Library Café, Ubar or Macquarie University Sport & Aquatic Centre.

In order to host our Great Book Swap stalls, Macquarie staff and students are needed to volunteer between 10am – 2pm during the week, September 6-8. Please register your interest here.

This initiative is designed to raise awareness for the ILF and the year-round work they do. We also want to raise at least $1,000 for them. If you cannot participate on campus, consider a visit to our live Macquarie donation page here.

This year, the ILF is aiming to raise $150,000 to be spent on 15,000 new, carefully chosen books to children in remote communities across the country.

The Great Book Swaps will be set up at three locations on Wallumattagal Campus, The Library, 18 Wally’s Walk and Macquarie University Sport and Aquatic Centre (MUSAC).
