Macquarie University attained Gold status at the 2022 Australian LGBTQ Inclusion Awards on Friday 27 May, a step up from Silver status achieved each year since 2018.

“This result reflects the work happening every day at Macquarie University and follows our most comprehensive AWEI submission to date,” says Nicole Gower, Vice-President, Professional Services.

This event recognises Australia’s top organisations for LGBTQ inclusion based on results of the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI) survey, which is gaining in reputation. In 2022, 172 organisations participated in the AWEI, the affiliated survey received 44,953 responses from 181 organisations, the highest ever received.

“I’d like to thank everyone at Macquarie University who contributes to creating our culture of inclusion, it is through your work alongside our Ally Network, diversity committees and Workplace D&I team that we are able to create such positive change and be recognised in such a way,” says Nicole.

In June we celebrate Pride month where this year’s theme is ‘Be Brave, Be Strong, Be You’. It will be a time for the University to recognise the importance of LGBTIQ+ diversity, equality and inclusion in and outside the workplace, and to celebrate our unique differences and personalities.
