New-look Handbook is now available for students commencing in 2020

This week marks another Program Beacon milestone with the release of the 2020 Handbook.

This critical resource for students and staff is now available at coursehandbook.mq.edu.au.

In keeping with the principles in the Student Success Strategic Framework the new-look, easy-to-use handbook will provide new students with a necessary resource in an accessible, online format. Students will be able to find the information they need, at their convenience.

During November new students will be invited to enrol and provided with a link to the new Handbook.

Check out the new Handbook here and search or bookmark your favourite courses, units and majors. As a bonus, the new Handbook is also accessible on your mobile device – so new students will have accurate course and unit information at their finger-tips.

But wait there’s more…

A less visible innovation in the new Handbook is that all the information is pulled from the new curriculum management system (MQCMS). All course and unit information provided to new students is up-to-date and more reliable than ever.

Supporting our continuing students

The 2020 Handbook is a resource that has been specifically designed for new students. Due to the changes made in the curriculum transformation and transition it was necessary to design a new approach to supply continuing students with the information they need to make their unit selection. Pre-2020 students will be supplied with a personalised study plan, just in time for January re-enrolments.

During this transition from old to new, pre-2020 handbooks are an important part of the corporate record and they’ll be available via the new Handbook portal.  Pre-2020 students will also be able to access their personalised study plans via a link on this page too from December 2019.

What next for Program Beacon?

  • Release of Double Degree Advisor module in MQCMS and integrations with iLearn, iTeach and Tracker
  • Preparation and assessment of student data for TCSI
  • Enabling single sign-on for both staff and students to AMIS 8
  • Business transformation in 2020

Each of the toolkits for Program Beacon projects are readily available in the Program Beacon Hub. If you’d like to stay in touch with Program Beacon, subscribe to Beacon Bytes via beacon@mq.edu.au.

  1. The new handbook does not provide an easily accessible option to browse units by offering – it would be great to incorporate a side tab that is easy to get to for this.

  2. The new course handbook is very confusing. It’s a bit hard to use and figure out how the page works. There is very little for combined degrees like commerce and law or other combined exempting security studies. I’m assuming that it’s not finished yet as it looks like it’s missing a lot.
