At Macquarie University, we are deeply committed to the highest standards of research integrity. We believe these standards underpin our reputation for research excellence and reflect our values as an institution.
The recently revised Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018 issued by the National Health and Medical Council (NHMRC), Australian Research Council (ARC) and Universities Australia, is integral to Macquarie’s research integrity framework. This framework provides clear expectations for responsible research conduct.
Be informed
A revised Macquarie Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research and accompanying Macquarie University Research Code Complaints, Breaches and Investigation Procedure were recently issued. These apply to anyone who conducts research or research support under the auspices of Macquarie University.
The revised Macquarie Research Code adopts in full the broad principles and responsibilities outlined in the Australian Code. The associated Macquarie Research Code Procedure describes how potential or actual deviations from the principles and responsibilities outlined in the Macquarie Research Code must be reported, assessed, investigated and managed. This is consistent with the new Guide to Managing and Investigating Potential Breaches of the Australian Code for the Responsible Conduct of Research 2018, also issued by the NHMRC, ARC and Universities Australia.
Watch for future changes
During the remainder of 2019, the NHMRC and ARC will progressively release updated guidelines on the specific topics of Authorship, Collaborative Research, Conflicts of interest, Management of Data and Information in Research, Peer Review, Publication and Dissemination of Research, and Research Supervision. Macquarie University standards and procedures will be developed or updated in line with these new guides.
