A tribute to Kim Guerin

Kim Guerin, Director of Campus Life

The University community was deeply saddened by the recent death of Kim Guerin.

Kim had been Director of Campus Life and CEO of U@MQ since joining Macquarie in October 2015.

In her time at Macquarie, Kim had become a well-known and highly respected leader across the campus amongst staff and students alike.

Vice-Chancellor and President Professor S Bruce Dowton noted “In losing Kim Guerin, we have lost one of the University’s finest members of our community. Kim touched the lives of so many across the campus and beyond. Her work was always diligent and performed with an attention to detail and a deep caring and concern for achieving outcomes which would truly benefit our students and staff. In her unassuming but very skilled way, she tackled a number of complex matters for us during her time with the University. I pay tribute to her strong commitment to our values and acknowledge her many accomplishments. The years and decades to come will bear witness to the many enduring outcomes of her work with and among us.”

The University was represented at Kim’s funeral service in Brisbane by a number of colleagues, including Human Resources Director Nicole Gower and acting CEO of U@MQ Pete Boyle.

Kim had come to Macquarie from the University of Queensland and served on the Board of UniSport Australia for six years. CEO of UniSport Australia, Don Knapp, said Kim’s work as Chair of UniSport’s Finance and Risk Management Committee “influenced the maturation of UniSport as an organisation”.

She will be greatly missed at Macquarie University, and by all her friends and colleagues in sporting and wider circles.  The University will honour Kim at a memorial service later this year; details to be announced in This Week.
