Reminder: portion of Research Park Drive closes 9 December

A portion of Research Park Drive will shortly be closed permanently to better cater for the safety and amenity of our pedestrian population and to enable some key projects to improve the public realm in the area. From 9 December, there will no longer be drive-through access between Talavera Road and University Ave.

The carparks on Research Park Drive (East 2 and East 3) will remain open; however, access to the carparks from Research Park Drive via University Avenue will no longer be possible (see updated map below). Traffic that uses the road to drive through campus will need to use alternative routes.

Works will commence in January 2018 around the Becton-Dickinson (BD) Building located at 4 Research Park Drive to improve the public realm and are expected to take eight months to complete. During this time, there will be changes to some routines and accesses to accommodate construction, with measures in place to minimise impacts where possible.

  1. I usually walk a long way from MqU Train station to hospital. Last visit I walked wrong direction. No signs made any sense.
Are there any buses from ? Chatswood or Epping that stop near hospital or how do I walk from MqU train station. Please help

    1. Hi Glena, thanks for your email. You can still walk from the train station/bus stop adjacent to the hospital along either Herring Road, with Macquarie Shopping Centre to your right, turning left into Innovation Road or Talavera Road to reach the hospital.

If you try Googling ‘bus stops near Macquarie Hospital’ the search will show where the bus stops are on the map. There is one quite close.

I hope this helps, kind regards.

  2. I have an appointment here but unfortunately the map is just too small to be read and hence is ineffective in its purpose of directing people to avoid the effected area

  3. As someone that works at the hospital, some form of warning would have been useful. I left the car park the other day, and the first sign of any closure was the barricade across the road – a bit late for me and the van in front that both then turned right up the hill assuming there was a detour but that was a dead end. No, I ended up reversing the entire way down the road. You didn’t think signage suggesting an alternative route would have been helpful? And now it looks as though this is going to be a permanent stuff-up with the only way to exit the campus southbound to use Innovation Rd and turn around in the taxi bay? Appalling project planning.

    1. Thank you for your comment, Vaughan, and apologies for the inconvenience you experienced. Our project managers did communicate with the hospital directly on these changes prior to the road closing. To exit the campus southbound, your best option now will be turn right onto Research Park Drive when exiting the hospital carpark. You would then turn left onto Talavera Road and then left onto Culloden Road. We are happy to email you the above map directly if that would be helpful. Just email us at campusdevelopment@mq.edu.au. Thank you for your understanding as we prepare our University for our next 50 years of growth.
