A longstanding member of the Ancient History Department, Emeritus Professor Samuel Lieu, has been elected to the Presidency of the Union Académique Internationale (UAI) at the biannual meeting of the UAI General Assembly in Tokyo on Wednesday 25 October 2017.
Established in 1919, the UAI is the global organisation of national academies in the fields of the humanities and social sciences (HASS) in more than 60 countries. The UAI’s purpose is to initiate, recognise, foster and fund basic long-term international research projects.
Professor Lieu’s election offers clear recognition of the high esteem in which he is held by his international peers. His election is also a great honour for the Australian Academy of Humanities and for Macquarie University.
