From Monday 6 November, grab your mates and head over to check out the soft opening of our new food, beverage and social precinct – Campus Common.

An exciting mix of food and beverage retailers join the space, including:

  • Sambal – Singaporean and Malaysian cuisines
  • Sushi World – High-quality quick and easy sushi
  • Doner Kebab – New twist on Turkish street food
  • Lee’s Asian Food – Traditional Chinese dishes
  • Taste Baguette – Campos coffee and handcrafted baguettes, fresh salads and more food options with a French-Vietnamese flavour
  • Boost Juice – Smoothies, snacks, crushes and juices
  • Burger Freight – Variety of food and drink creations including burgers, milkshakes and more

For a list of opening times for each location throughout the year, visit our new food and drink website here.

The new Ubar is also scheduled to open on Monday.

It’s been one of your favourite late afternoon/evening hangouts for a while, but now it’ll be open from 7:30am Monday to Friday all year.

Meet a friend for a coffee and chill out or study throughout the day. There’s still a great line-up of events too. Stop by from 2pm on Tuesday 7 November to catch the Melbourne Cup action on the big screen, enter sweeps and raffles, or compete for best dressed.

Happy Hour continues in the Campus Common every Friday from 4:30pm to 6:30pm ($5 basics and $10 pizzas). Follow Ubar on Facebook to see which of your favourite artists will play each week.

Now that the new precinct is ready, we plan to permanently close the Campus Hub this Friday 3 November. As a reminder, banks/ATMs, grocery stores, etc. are located at the popular Macquarie Centre, located within walking distance to the University. MQ merchandise will still be available on campus through a pop-up stall and online store.

Later this year, C9A and C10A will be removed to make room for an innovative new teaching and learning building – to be called 1 Central Courtyard – with food and beverage offerings, as well as the first two of five student housing buildings. Watch this space for more details.

In the meantime, enjoy the new Campus Common!

  1. So the ATMs at the mac centre are close and convenient but we needed a boost on campus? The boost at Mac centre is closer than the ATMs! Why do we have a chain store when we could have had variety and supported an independent business?

  2. The new campus common looks great. Fun buzz, and the design features blend well. We’d love to see some more umbrella’s though for much needed shade outdoors.

  3. Hi There
    Greeting from Singappore
I’m a peranakan fusion chef. When a food retail outlet decides to serve the student at Macquarie or any others, then they must place priority consideration to providing affordable and competitive price and not profit-driven outlets. Priority is to support the STUDENT, and this must placed as the principal objective, sustainable business vision as well as non-compromise in quality and quantity, in order to have a outlet to serve the student. Do you think the F & B outlets at the university sells expensive food, the answer is YES! How do they price food items at $10 and above, where the cost is much lower. I’m willing to work together with the University to set up an Food Outlet that do not sell food as business taking consideration as Profit and Loss as what most commercial food business does, is to make money. I’m will to provide food at NO PRICE introduce as a SOCIAL ENTERPRISE placing social support as priority. Student can eat pasta or even Asian food without worrying the cost or price, because there will be NO PRICES! Instead student can place their contribution in a BOX on what they felt the worth of it and if the student has no money then they are not obligated to contribute at all. This is call social enterprise service for the student and support the student and not about making money on students! Look forward to hear your interest and hope to further discuss on this project with MQ! Thanks

  4. Vale Marxines! Opened in 1972, when I was an undergrad student here. From there, and the Uni bar, we plotted all kinds of revolutions, like….sit-ins in the Union building, protests against exclusive Staff Clubs, no cops on campus…and more important stuff like Vietnam war demos. After forty five years as a Macquarie institution, its just going to quietly close on 3/11/17 and disappear. Sigh!! RIP. Thanks for all the great coffees over the years.

  5. Looking forward to checking it out! But I agree that the Thai stall would be a great addition.

  6. I agree that the Thai food outlet was excellent and I think it should have been allowed to continue trading in the Campus Common.

  7. What a shame the Thai food outlet didn’t get a spot. It is the best food on campus by far and even my midwife had heard how good the Thai food was from there (from her son who studied here).
