What they're saying

Testimonial

James Johnston
Bachelor of Security Studies, 2017

“I chose security studies to expand my future employment opportunities and equip myself with the skills to make a difference in matters that really count. Macquarie’s well‑regarded academics and reputation for innovation enticed me, as I knew I’d be getting the best possible preparation for future employment.”

“During school I used to contemplate between joining the Police or the Defence Force. Now, I not only have the chance of making a larger impact within these roles, but I’ve opened up a range of opportunities within rewarding careers that I didn’t even know about before my studies.”

Dr Julian Droogan, Senior Lecturer in Security Studies and Criminology

"Dr Julian Droogan is a sought-after expert in the link between religious extremism and security.

Julian has a background in anthropology, Asian history and culture and religious studies and is frequently asked to comment in the media about these topics and their relation to current global security issues, including on radio, television and press, such as the Sydney Morning Herald.

He has a particular interest in the relationship between religions and international security in the Middle East and the Asia Pacific. Julian's research projects include an ongoing program examining and assessing Countering Violent Extremism (CVE) in Australia, especially at ways that academics and industry can work together to produce CVE outcomes.
