Research and teaching excellence stories
Professor Ben Schreer, Head of Security Studies and Criminology at Macquarie University, teaches and researches in security and strategic studies, with a main focus on Asia-Pacific strategic trends and the evolution of Australian defence policy. He teaches Geopolitics and Geostrategy to postgraduate students and publishes regularly in journals related to his areas of research interest.
Professor Schreer regularly provides expert advice to national and international media on these subjects. Most recently he has commented in the Sydney Morning Herald on Sino-Japanese relations in the wake of Japan sailing a large warship through the South China Sea; power struggles in North East Asia for SBS; and USA expectations about Australia’s role in Asia-Pacific region, for the Sydney Morning Herald.
Professor Schreer is a member of the International Institute for Strategic Studies (IISS) in London and a member of the editorial board of the Journal for Policing, Intelligence and Counter Terrorism (JPICT) and the Australian Journal of International Affairs.
