Optus Cyber Security Hub
One-third of Australian businesses have experienced cybercrime, resulting in business disruption, loss of information and revenue, as well as damage to reputation and even equipment. The frequency and cost of cyber breaches is increasing rapidly in line with the growing number and sophistication of cyber attacks. Each year, cybercrime costs Australia more than $1 billion.
Launched in 2016, the Optus Macquarie University Cyber Security Hub is a $10 million joint investment, brings together experts from three Faculties at Macquarie University, business and government to tackle challenges in cyber security.
An important role of the Hub is to conduct cross-cutting research across several disciplines, including computing, engineering, business, criminology, law and psychology. Students will benefit from this as Macquarie trains the next generation of cyber security specialists.
