Student tips for orientation

Student tips for orientation

Whether you're a new or returning student, make the most of your time here. Get involved with life on campus and get familiar with all the support and opportunities available to you in 2019 at O Week!

Orientation is the start of your journey at Macquarie, your introduction to life with us, and a showcase of our fun, vibrant and friendly community. We'll celebrate the start of a new session, explore what's on offer for the session, and help you to embrace campus life before classes begin the following week.

Most programs now have online enrolment which you should be able to complete before you come on campus for orientation. Enrolment support is usually available on campus in MUSE for a few weeks before classes start.

What should I attend during orientation?

Every student is welcome at every event during Orientation. Here are our top tips:

  1. Check your emails for information, which will provide some guidance about the events and activities you should attend. You should attend your Faculty Welcome, where you'll have the chance to meet your peers, student representatives and staff.
  2. There are lots of workshops and information sessions to help you hit the ground running from day 1, as well as lots of sessions that will give you the opportunity to meet and connect with both new and current students. You should register for as many sessions as you can to make the most of your orientation.
  3. Life is all about balance, so try everything! We have lots of academic activities but don't forget about the social events and tours, which will run daily throughout orientation.
  4. Be ready to ask questions. There will be lots of staff available for you to speak with during orientation, so come prepared with your questions. You'll also have the chance to select and meet your peer mentor, who will be able to guide you during your first session at Macquarie. Drop into "Ask a Mentor" outside MUSE, 18 Wally's Walk.
