Student tips for orientation

O-Week 2016
Whether you're a new or returning student, make the most of your time here. Get involved with life on campus and get familiar with all the support and opportunities available to you in 2017 at O Week!

Orientation is the start of your journey at Macquarie, your introduction to life with us, and a showcase of our fun, vibrant and friendly community. We'll celebrate the start of a new session, explore what's on offer for the session, and help you to embrace campus life before classes begin the following week.

Most programs now have online enrolment which you should be able to complete before you come on campus for orientation. Enrolment support is usually available on campus in MUSE for a few weeks before classes start.

What should I attend during orientation?

Every student is welcome at every event during Orientation. Here are our five top tips:

  1. Check your emails for information, which will provide some guidance about the events and activities you should attend. You should attend your Faculty Welcome, where you'll have the chance to meet your peers, student representatives and staff.
  2. If you're a new international or postgraduate student, you'll receive additional invites to events just for you. You should plan to come to these in addition to other sessions; they're a great opportunity to network and to find out about the dedicated support Macquarie offers during your transition.
  3. Life is all about balance, so try everything! We have lots of academic activities but don't forget about the social events and tours, which will run daily through orientation and Week 1.
  4. Be ready to ask questions. There will be lots of staff available for you to speak with during orientation, so come prepared with your questions. You'll also have the chance to select your peer mentor, who will be able to guide you during your first session at Macquarie. Pop by the info stalls across campus to collect your orientation booklet - you'll find them all around campus as well as in the Central Courtyard.
