You’ll always find something of interest at Macquarie, whether it’s our weekly farmers’ market, movie screenings, the Sculpture Park or temporary exhibits at our Art Gallery. We also host specialty lectures, theatre performances and cultural festivals.
Like a miniature city, Macquarie has just about everything you need right on campus. We offer a bookshop, a convenience store, banking and postal services, a travel agent, a hair salon, a bar, several cafes and an abundance of eating options in our food court. Anything you can’t find on campus is only a short walk away at the Macquarie Centre, one of Sydney’s largest shopping centres.
Macquarie is home to three outstanding early childhood education and care centres for children aged from six weeks to five years: Gumnut Cottage, Banksia Cottage and Mia Mia Child and Family Study Centre. We also have Vacation Care for primary school-aged children during school holidays. Surrounded by beautiful tall gum trees, winding tracks and wide-open green spaces, it’s an ideal environment for children to learn and play.
Student groups are a great way to connect with people who share similar passions and interests – and best of all, they’re created and run by students. Whether you’re keen on photography or philosophy, computing or Croatia, with more than 140 different societies to choose from, there’s sure to be something for you.
Sport and recreation
Macquarie’s sports facilities are some of the best in the country, offering a state-of-the-art health club; heated 50m outdoor and 25m indoor swimming pools; football and soccer fields; tennis, basketball and squash courts; a martial arts area; gymnastics hall; and several sporting programs.
If fitness and team sport are your kind of thing, become a MacWarrior and join one of our many sports clubs. We offer a range of competitive and casual sporting programs including AFL, cheerleading, cricket, fencing, hockey, quidditch, rowing, rugby union, scuba diving, soccer, squash, swimming, table tennis and water polo.
Getting to Macquarie has never been easier. We’re the only university in Australia with its own train station and it’s just 30 minutes from the Sydney CBD, with services running both ways every 15 minutes during the day. You can also choose to drive, ride a bike or catch a bus. We have more than 4000 parking spaces on campus and free, secure BikeHub storage lockers and racks.
