Short Term Language Exchange - Universidad ORT Uruguay (January)
Universidad ORT has designed a special intensive Spanish summer program for Macquarie’s introductory-level Spanish and Latin American studies (SPN) students. Participants will not only enhance their Spanish at one of Uruguay’s most renowned universities while gaining credit for their MQ degree but will also immerse themselves in the unique culture and unique lifestyle of Montevideo.

Costs: around 550 USD plus accommodation.
Accommodation: Participants will check-in at the student house Myô. Students can stay a few extra nights before or after the program.The cost of 3 weeks of accommodation at student house Myô will depend on the type of room chosen (there are 6 rooms, including one single room at USD22/day, four double rooms at USD19/day and one triple room at USD15/day). Students will have to pay accommodation costs directly to student house Myô and will also be required to pay a USD$100 security deposit upon arrival.
More Information: Students will gain credit for SPN120, with a workload comprising of approximately 40 classroom hours over 3 weeks, complimented by a plethora of excursions and field trips included in the programme fee. Optional tango classes are available at an extra cost (approximately $150 USD) as well as an optional carnaval parade (approximately $30 USD). Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for this program, you must:
- Enrolled into an undergraduate degree with demonstrable relevance to the program at Macquarie
- Successfully complete SPN101 and be enrolled in SPN102 at the time of assessment
- Students must have minimum WAM of 60 at time of assessment
- Completed a minimum 40 cp at time of assessment
- Satisfy other criteria specified in the Student Exchange Policy

Logistics Fees: Student participants will be required to pay a logistics fee (Approx. AUD$505) to cover the cost of some cultural activities and other non-tuition related course components. Students should not book until they receive official acceptance from ORT.
Insurance: Travel insurance: must be purchased for duration of the trip. More information will be given to successful applicants.
Program Costs: Macquarie enrolment fees: students will be enrolled into corresponding Macquarie units (SPN120) for which the usual fees (or HECS deferral) is due. Students do not pay tuition fees to ORT.
