Macquarie University Asia Society Scholarship Program
In partnership with Asia Society Australia, The Macquarie University Asia Society Scholarship Program is designed to encourage students to undertake a semester exchange in one of Macquarie's partner universities in Asia.
Scholarship Program Objectives:
- To increase Macquarie students' understanding of the Indo-Pacific Region
- To deepen the people-to-people link and institutional relations in the region.
Scholarship Amount: $3000-$7000
Country/Region: China, Hong Kong, Taiwan, India, Indonesia, Japan, Malaysia, Nepal, Philippines, Singapore, South Korea, Thailand, Vietnam, Fiji

The area of study depends on the programs/courses available at the host university.

Eligibility Criteria
- Macquarie students currently enrolled in an undergraduate or postgraduate coursework program.
- Study full time while on exchange at the host university
- Hold a minimum WAM of 70
- Meet host university entry criteria
- NCP grant recipients are not eligible to apply for Asia Society Scholarship
- This scholarship program is open to Commonwealth supported students as well as International Students. International students are not permitted to go on exchange in their home country.
How to apply
Step 1: Applicants are required to write a written statement and email to mi.exchange@mq.edu.au before the semester exchange application deadline. The statement needs to meet the following criteria:
- Maximum 2-3 pages in length with your name and student number.
- The statement needs to address all the four criteria below:
- (1) Demonstrate academic excellence at the tertiary level (Assessment of this criterion will relate to a) the applicant’s graded average achieved in tertiary studies, and b) to ungraded academic achievements, such as academic awards and commendations, publications, or other examples of academic excellence at the tertiary level. The applicant’s communication skills, higher-order cognitive and critical thinking skills, and engagement in learning will also be assessed. High School academic achievements will not be considered.)
- (2) Demonstrate leadership in the community (Assessment of this criterion will relate to the applicant’s demonstrated leadership in the community, including volunteer and not-for-profit roles and/or activities they have undertaken in their local community, nationally, overseas and/or in their university.)
- (3) Demonstrate adaptability and resilience (Assessment of this criterion will relate to the applicant’s ability to adapt to change, thrive in a different environment, and demonstrate resilience in the face of challenges.)
- (4) Demonstrate the ability to contribute to Macquarie University's Asia Society Scholarship Program as an ambassador (Assessment of this criterion will relate to the applicant’s understanding of Asia Society Scholarship objectives, and how the applicant and their proposed Exchange Program would contribute to Asia Society Scholarship goals.)
Step 2: If shortlisted, applicants will be invited to attend a 15-minute interview at Macquarie International.
