Semester Exchange - ACICIS Program - New Colombo Plan
The Australian Consortium for ‘In-Country’ Indonesian Studies (ACICIS) is an innovative, non-profit, national educational consortium that was established in 1994 to overcome the substantial academic, bureaucratic, and immigration impediments that had prevented Australian students from undertaking credited semester study at Indonesian universities. Today ACICIS runs the Study Indonesia Program (SIP) which consists of a variety of study options in Indonesia and is also open to non-Australians and private individuals.
New Colombo Plan mobility grants are available to undergraduate Macquarie University students wishing to spend Semester 2 2017 studying in Indonesia on one of ACICIS Study Indonesia’s in-country programs:
International Relations Program at Parahyangan University, Bandung ($5,000 Mobility Grant Available)
Spend a semester studying International Relations from an Indonesian perspective at Parahyangan Catholic University (UNPAR), Bandung. All classes are conducted in English giving non-Indonesian speakers a unique first-hand insight into Indonesian views on global affairs. More information on this study option is available here.
Indonesian Business, Law and Society Program at Indonesian Islamic University, Yogyakarta ($5,000 Mobility Grants Available)
This program provides students with a unique opportunity to study Indonesian Business, Law or Society, or a combination thereof, at an Islamic university in the world’s largest Muslim-majority nation. All classes are conducted in English, and students have the opportunity to undertake an internship placement as part of their study. Pre-approved units: please refer to the files for Indonesian Business, Law and Society (IBLS) Program and International Relations Program (IRP). Please note the IBLS outcome is completed and IRP is awaiting decision for 2 units, we will upload the final version for IBLS when it is ready.
To be eligible for this program, you must:
- Have Australian Citizenship, and between 18 and 28 years of age on their program start date
- A cumulative GPA of 2.0 or higher (varies each program),
- Completion of at least 12cp at the time of application. 18cp to go abroad, Enough credit points remaining to complete the program,
- Comply with the eligibility criteria outlined in the Student Exchange Policy.

Application Fee and Payment Options: For all exchange programs (semester and short term), there is a compulsory application fee. For more information and payment options please refer to the Cost and Funding Website.
Insurance: It is a requirement of the exchange program that all students must purchase their own travel insurance to cover them for the duration of their entire journey overseas. More information will be given to students upon acceptance.
Program Costs: You remain enrolled at Macquarie University and continue to pay your tuition fees to Macquarie University. As an exchange student you pay no tuition fees to host university. However, you must also always be prepared for unexpected expenses, and should consider how you will be dealing with the expenses of your exchange before you leave your home country. Prior to departure, you will need to save sufficient funds to cover all of your expenses for the duration of your exchange. Some costs to consider include: airfares, students visa (if required), travel health insurance, accommodation, food, additional travel, entertainment, textbooks, incidental expense. If you wish to work while you are away, it is important to note that work rights for international students vary from country to country. For further information about your visa restrictions please contact the consulate or embassy of your host country.
