The Office of International Programs administers the California State University (CSU) Systemwide Student Exchange Program and has student exchange agreements with over 60 institutions worldwide. Our office is located at the CSU Office of the Chancellor in Long Beach, California which is the headquarters office for the CSU system, the largest university system in the United States which has 23 campuses and over 474,000 enrolled students throughout the State of California. This program gives qualified degree-seeking students from our exchange partners the opportunity to attend one of our 23 CSU campuses as an exchange student.

California State University (CSU) is the largest four-year public university system in the United States with 23 campuses. The California State University offers unlimited opportunities to help students fulfil their personal and professional goals. At our 23 campuses, students can choose from more than 1,800 bachelor's and master's degree programs in 240 subject areas. The CSU offers institutes and outreach programs that take the university’s talent and resources out into California’s communities. Additionally, a wide range of support services and scholarship programs are available to help students reach their goals.

Eligibility Criteria

To be eligible for this program, you must meet the following criteria:
  • Macquarie Abroad General Eligibility Criteria
  • Sufficient proof of funding for US Visa (varies by university, approximately $8,000-10,000 USD)
  • Nomination from Macquarie University
  • English language proficiency for non-native speakers
  • Review the course information and restricted courses to check it is suitable for your degree progression at Macquarie University

How to Apply

Applicants must complete an online Application form. You'll need to include:

Your personal details, three university preferences. statement on how your preferences align with your degree at Macquarie University

Once you have conducted your research, it should take around 10 minutes to complete an application

Important notes:

Application Fee: $50 AUD, non-refundable

Insurance: All students are covered by Macquarie University AIG travel insurance and must purchase extra insurance to cover any travel taken before or after the official start and end dates for the semester abroad as well as any leisure activities outside of the scope of your program. Students in the USA may be required to purchase mandatory university health insurance plans and should expect this additional cost, while others may be able to waive out of this requirement dependent on the university chosen.

Program Costs:  You remain enrolled at Macquarie University and continue to pay your tuition fees to Macquarie University. As an exchange student you pay no tuition fees to host university. However, you must also always be prepared for unexpected expenses, and should consider how you will be dealing with the expenses of your exchange before you leave your home country. Prior to departure, you will need to save sufficient funds to cover all of your expenses for the duration of your exchange. Some costs to consider include: airfares, students visa (if required), travel health insurance, accommodation, food, additional travel, entertainment, textbooks, incidental expense. If you wish to work while you are away, it is important to note that work rights for international students vary from country to country. For further information about your visa restrictions please contact the consulate or embassy of your host country.
