Short Term Language Exchange - National and Kapodistrian University of Athens (January)
The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens is the second biggest university of Greece in number of students (following the Aristotle University of Thessaloniki). The idea of establishing a University in Greece emerged alongside with the Greek War of Independence, also known as the Greek Revolution. The National and Kapodistrian University of Athens, officially founded in April 14th, 1837, is the first University not only of Greece but both the Balkan peninsula and the Eastern Mediterranean region.
Athens’ program will see successful student applicants take part in 6-week intensive Modern Greek language and culture program. There shall be educational visits, tours to archaeological sights and museums in Athens and beyond, as well as visits to places of special significance within the political and economic spheres. In the past students have visited: Olympia – the birthplace of the Olympics, Mycenae – a former centre of Greek civilisation, Delphi - an archaeologically important site, The Great Theatre of Epidaurus, Aegina [Αίγινα] island.

Costs: 750 EUR (in 2018) plus accommodation.
Accommodation: Athens has contacted the following student dormitory (www.stacs.gr) to provide for students participating with accommodation for the 6-week long program. In the past, a double studio cost €280 for the program’s duration (approx. €7 per night). Accommodation costs are the responsibility of each student and must be paid directly to the accommodation provider. Students may make their own independent accommodation arrangements.

To be eligible for this program, you must meet the following criteria:
- Enrolled into an undergraduate degree at Macquarie University with a demonstrable relevance to the MGK discipline
- Students must have minimum GPA 2.0 of 4.0 or 4.0 of 7.0 at time of assessment
- Completed a minimum 12 credit points at Macquarie University at time of assessment
- Satisfy other criteria specified in the Student Exchange Policy.

Cost: Return airfare and any additional leisure travel undertaken
Insurance: Travel insurance policy covering the student from the day s/he departs Australia until s/he returns.
Program Costs: Standard cost of enrolment at Macquarie into MGK residential shell unit. Also, Athens Program Fee this fee is payable to Athens after acceptance. It covers the cost of museum visits, and an extensive range of educational tours
