Global leadership entry program

Global leadership entry program

Applications for S1 2018 entry are now closed.

Applications for S1 2019 open Monday 14 May 2018 and close 5pm Monday 27 August 2018.

Macquarie's students are global citizens, deeply engaged with the world and the big issues shaping the future of society. The Global Leadership Entry Program (GLEP) supports and inspires global leaders of tomorrow. We look for students who have aspirations for service, engagement and leaders in their school and community. Students participating in extracurricular activities and achieving good results at school.

Benefits for successful GLEP students:

  • enrol into university before you complete your HSC exams
  • participate in many of the Global Leadership Program activities, including specialised workshops and speaker events – run by experts in their field – on topics such as leadership, climate change, and Indigenous issues
  • have early access to our state-of-the-art library and student community area - MUSE, where you can hang out with current students
  • access our campus wi-fi – just bring your laptop and connect away
  • participate in networking activities to get to know other students starting uni just like you

What to do next?

Make the transition from Year 12 to university easier by staying focused on your studies which leaves your options open in case you discover a passion for something different. GLEP students are among our best and we know you'll be no different.

How do I check if my application has been received?

Upon submitting your application, you will receive a confirmation email to your nominated email. You may also log in to Macquarie University eForms to check the status of your application. Your status should be either ‘Submitted’ or ‘In progress’.

Once I've received an offer, can it be taken away; for example, if I didn't end up getting the required HSC (ATAR) prerequisite mark for the course?

A GLEP offer and the final official offer made via UAC is assessed based on your application, so your HSC results don't have any impact or bearing on your offer. The HSC results won't change the outcome of a successful GLEP offer.

However, it's important to note that students should complete their HSC and the course offered to them via GLEP should be their highest eligible preference, ensure you follow the steps in your offer advice letter.

Having received an early offer from Macquarie, students can tackle their HSC exams with a renewed sense of purpose. Don't forget that your HSC results are a record of your overall academic achievement and will be useful for a range of things. For example, you may wish to seek part-time work or an internship and potential employers may consider your entire academic record. Or there may be a leadership opportunity that arises that includes academic achievement in its selection criteria.

Your HSC results are a significant part of the record of your potential and achievements, and we know that you're keen to ensure that your résumé reflects your true abilities. Hopefully, the certainty of your Macquarie offer will provide you with added encouragement to get your desired results, stress free.

Can I defer my offer?

Do I get any recognition for the activities I did in Year 12?

How will I find out the outcome of my application?

We will notify you via email to the nominated email provided when you created your account. Once your application has been received, it will be reviewed and assessed. As a guideline this process may take up to 6–8 weeks.

I applied for the Global Leadership Entry Program because I saw it as an opportunity to continue my interests from high school.

Passionate about issues affecting the community, I was actively involved in Halogen Young Leaders Day, ‘Wellington Stands Alone’ movement and Lions Youth of the Year District Competition throughout high school. I was a positive role model for students by inspiring them to reach their potential as Vice-Captain of Dubbo College Senior Campus and coach of Wellington Warries Soccer team.

After completing the HSC, I volunteered for two weeks at my local primary school assisting students with literacy and numeracy.  It was a rewarding experience and I could claim points under the Global Leadership Program. I have been impressed by Macquarie’s friendly and supportive environment.  I have found the transition from living at home in a small country town to on campus life at Macquarie easy and enjoyable.

Nicholas Trappett – Bachelor of Arts (Media) with Bachelor of Laws

During my HSC year, I worried that the process of getting into university disregarded the individual and placed a large emphasis on a single mark.

GLEP took into consideration my extracurricular activities, allowing me to get into my dream degree. As a school leader, I created a Facebook coursework platform to assist year 10 students. As FIRST Robotics Captain I fostered positive discussions relating to women’s involvement in STEM roles. Through a Tribal Drumming group, I represented my community and built awareness of traditional West African music.

The best part about getting a GLEP offer was the relief it brought.  I was accepted into the program before sitting my HSC, which meant that a massive weight of pressure was lifted.

Tanya Shukla - Bachelor of Engineering (Honours)

I got into my dream degree through the Global Leadership Entry Program because of all the activities I completed in Year 11 and 12, not despite them.

At school, I founded a simple e-learning platform ‘Code with Me’ which teaches university students how to code and co-foundered Telenex - an app to assist in the diagnosis and on-going treatment of patients in Nepal. For the app, I received the Social Impact prize at UN Women Project Inspire. Additionally, as a founding member and Youth Ambassador for the ‘Hills Youth Army’ I helped raise over $40,000 for the homeless.

Regardless of what your passion is, Macquarie will have an avenue for you to pursue it further. Since starting this year, I’ve become a vice president for a society, and I’ve been nominated Science & Engineering Representative on the SRC. I’ve also continued building my start-up “Code With Me” through collaboration with the Pop-up Incubator Program and Entrepreneur Society.

Aaron Takizad – Bachelor of Information Technology with Bachelor of Laws
