Media students' short film shines at St Kilda Film Festival
Creativity keeps coming at Macquarie!
"Choose", a short film directed and produced by Macquarie University media students Jake Severino and Anna Davis, was selected to play at the prestigious St Kilda Film Festival.
Choose is one of the only nine films featured in the Under the Radar category, a competition developed by the St Kilda Film Festival to give young filmmakers the chance to be seen and heard by their peers in the industry. Under the Radar films were shown in 27 May at the festival. The 3-minute film comically explores the notion of identity as five students are picked for a lunchtime sports team.
The film director, Jake Severino, explains, "I wanted the film to be a humorous look into the many ways we shape our own identities and, at least in my experience, how we seek the acceptance of others to validate our choices."
Jake and Anna, who are both studying Bachelor of Arts - Media, were thrilled at having their work recognised and thank the "very talented and generous crew and the invaluable teaching and encouragement from the media faculty at Macquarie University."
This experience has helped their confidence immensely. Jake says, "Being recognised by festival selectors really helps me believe in my developing ability as a filmmaker."
