English language requirements

All applicants need to provide evidence of English language proficiency. However, not all programs require the same level of English proficiency.

Students applying for Foundation or Diploma programs at the Macquarie University International College (MUIC) will need to meet MUIC English requirements.

You can find the IELTS English requirements for your program on either Coursefinder or Handbook and then reference the tables below to find alternative tests and scores accepted by Macquarie University.

MUIC English requirements

All applicants for entry to a Macquarie University International College (MUIC) Foundation or Diploma program will need to provide evidence of English language proficiency. The minimum requirements using the IELTS scale are as follows:

MUIC PROGRAM OVERALL READING WRITING LISTENING SPEAKING
Standard Foundation 5.5 5.0 5.0 5.0 5.0
Intensive Program 6.0 5.5 5.5 5.5 5.5
