Returning to study

Returning to study

Previous students of Macquarie wishing to return to study may apply directly to the University, provided they meet the eligibility criteria set out below.

International students apply via Macquarie International.

Local students who do not meet the eligibility criteria will need to apply to the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) where your qualifications will be re-assessed.

To be eligible to apply to return to Macquarie via this pathway you must meet the following criteria:

  • be a previous Macquarie University student who was enrolled in an undergraduate course;
  • be returning to complete the same undergraduate course;
  • have not undertaken any intervening tertiary studies* elsewhere;
  • have a recorded result in at least one unit of your incomplete qualification.

Students that have previously been excluded from Macquarie will need to meet additional requirements before being approved to return to studies. Returning to studies following exclusion.

*Tertiary studies include TAFE courses at Certificate IV or higher, but not secretarial or trade courses. If you are not sure whether your tertiary studies would affect your application please contact the admissions team by phone on +61 2 9850 6410 or by submitting an online enquiry via

Confirm that your course is offered and check your major

Check the online handbook to find your course and ensure it is being offered in the year that you are returning to studies. If your course is no longer offered you can apply to return to a course that most closely matches your previous studies. See the online handbook for details of courses offered.

Please check whether your course requires the nomination of a major (if so it will be listed with the requirements in the handbook). Make sure that you have checked and selected an applicable major for the degree that you are returning to before applying.
