 NEXT STEP PATHWAY DIPLOMA, FOUNDATION AND INTENSIVE PROGRAMS
Who
  • you're a current Higher School Certificate (HSC) student (or studying the equivalent) and are not confident of achieving the necessary ATAR for entry into your dream Macquarie degree or;
  • you're a non-school applicant (HSC or equivalent completed more than two years ago or over 21 years of age) without the required qualifications for direct entry into a bachelor degree.
  • Diploma programs: you must hold a Year 12 (or equivalent) qualification with a minimum Selection Rank of 60; or HSC (or interstate) board exam with minimum average mark* of 60.
  • Intensive Program: you must hold a Year 12 (or equivalent) qualification with a minimum Selection Rank of 50; or HSC (or interstate) board exam with minimum average mark* of 50.
  • Standard Foundation Program: you must have completed Year 11 (or equivalent) with an overall average mark* of 50.

Non-school applicants who do not have adequate formal education but have informal learning of relevant work experience can submit the Portfolio Entry Form and additional information for alternative entry consideration.

*Other factors are taken into consideration with your average mark, and therefore achieving the average mark does not guarantee you an offer. Only relevant State Board approved academic subjects are included when reviewing your average. For instance, in the New South Wales HSC, only results from Category A and B Board Developed courses are considered.

What
  • Choose from a range of first year units to study on campus.

Duration

One year (six months if you achieve a WAM of at least 65 in your first session after completing at least two units).

Diplomas: five terms

Intensive Program: two terms

Standard Foundation Program: four terms

Each term is seven weeks in duration, including six teaching weeks and an exam period.

Degree options

Upon successful completion of the Next Step program, you are eligible for entry into one of 19 Macquarie degrees.

When you successfully complete your Diploma program, you can transition into the second year of a selected range of Macquarie University bachelor degrees, provided you meet the entry requirements.

When you complete the Standard Foundation Program or Intensive Program, you will transition into the first year of a selected number of bachelor degrees, provided you meet the entry requirements.

Fees

Paid upfront in full prior to each session.

Tuition fees are charged in accordance with the subject area of the unit to be studied.

HECS-HELP is available for Diploma programs.

FEE-HELP is available for Standard Foundation Program and Intensive Program.
