More information is available from Maree Gosper, Grants Coordinator, phone x9752, e-mail maree.gosper@mq.edu.auAvailable information and support sessions are outlined below.

Macquarie University Teaching Development Grant Scheme
This scheme supports small-scale teaching development initiatives that extend beyond the normal curriculum development activities expected within Divisions and Departments. A maximum of $5,000 per grant is available to assist initiatives that focus on teaching, assessment and/or evaluation practices directed towards the enhancement of student learning.

Proposals may be:

initiatives that are innovative in the proposed teaching context,
initiatives that contribute to the development of more efficient approaches to teaching, or
initiatives that contribute to the strategic directions of the University.

Applications close on 1 May 2000.

Targeted Flagship Grant Scheme
The Targeted Flagship Grant Scheme supports substantial projects of strategic importance to the University and the Divisions/Department(s) concerned, and which involve significant innovation or developments likely to result in demonstrable improvements in the quality of teaching, student learning or assessment.

Targeted Flagship Grants are provided to assist projects focusing on one or more areas of strategic priority defined by the University Executive. In 2000, priority areas are:

enhancement and measurement of generic skills
internationalisation of the curriculum
teaching and learning links with the vocational education sector
intra- and inter-institutional collaboration in teaching and learning
enhancement of links between teaching and research or community outreach
integration of liberal and cross-disciplinary studies in professional education programs.

What Kind of Leader am I?
4 to 7 May (1 afternoon and 3 days residential)

Emotional intelligence (the ability to be aware of and take responsibility for managing personal and interpersonal dynamics) is increasingly recognised as a critical component of effective leadership/management. Development of greater skill and understanding in this area can reduce organisational losses which occur as a result of poor management of the personal and interpersonal aspects of an organisation.

The program is important for general or academic staff in a senior management role, or aspiring to such, who wish to increase their personal and interpersonal effectiveness as a leader. This is a highly interactive, experiential, fully residential workshop. It is a ground-breaking new program which was piloted at Macquarie in December 1999 and it was very positively received by participants (see article in MU News, February 2000).

The cost of the program is $595 per participant (this cost is heavily subsidised by CPD). Applications are due on Monday 10 April. For further details, please contact Brenda Turnbull, CPD, x9799, brenda.turnbull@mq.edu.au
