Aim | The objective of the NHMRC Project Grants scheme is to support the creation of new knowledge by funding the best investigator-initiated research project plan of five years, or less, in any area relevant to human health. A Project Grant application must outline a research proposal that describes the investigation of a new research idea/s. The proposal must support a particular set of aims and the budget must be directed to those aims. Single investigators or teams of up to ten chief investigators are supported as well as New Investigators (early career investigators). |
Funding | There is no specific funding limit for each application, however the NHMRC advises applicants to justify the requested budget clearly, paying particular attention to any research cost(s) that may be atypical for the particular field of research. Guidance on personnel support levels and direct research costs can be found in the NHMRC Budget Mechanism. Projects may run from one to five years, according to the demands of the research question(s). |
Faculty Processes | The Faculties have their own approval and review processes for grants under this scheme. They may also have deadlines for submission of draft applications that are earlier than the Research Office deadlines. Please ensure that you contact your Faculty, as early as possible, for information on process and deadlines.
