| Description | The Faculty of Business and Economics and the Research in the Economics of Art, Culture and Heritage (REACH) Research Network welcomed Pierre-Michel Menger, Professor of Sociology at the Collège de France to present his work on the topic of Contingent work and flexible labour markets in the arts as part of the Lighthouse Lecture Series at the Art Gallery of NSW on Tuesday 10 July 2018. The Lighthouse Lecture attracted interest from arts workers, policy makers, academics and guests interested in the evolution of creative workers’ work conditions and career prospects in the contemporary economy. Professor Menger discussed labour flexibility in the arts, with particular reference to long-term trends in labour markets in the performing arts. He highlighted the nature of contract work and the role of unemployment insurance and its mechanics and concluded with speculation about future trends in this field. This Lighthouse Lecture was held with the support of the Media, Entertainment and Arts Alliance. |
