‘Sharing Knowledge in the Spirit of Humboldt’ Symposium at Macquarie University
The 2019 biennial symposium of the Australian and New Zealand Associations of von Humboldt Fellows was held at Macquarie University 22–24 November 2019, marking the 250th anniversary of the birth of Alexander von Humboldt and providing an opportunity for cross-disciplinary reflections on his legacy.
The symposium was an enormous success thanks to the outstanding work of the Organising Committee chaired by Professor Ingrid Piller, Humboldt Fellow, member of Macquarie’s Department of Linguistics and of the Centre for Workforce Futures Executive Committee.
To rethink what ‘sharing knowledge’ means in today’s world, the symposium addressed the pressing challenges of research communication, dissemination and impact.
In introducing the session on ‘Sharing knowledge beyond the academy’, Professor Taksa, Centre co-Director, emphasised the need for infrastructure for digitally-born records and for researchers to be aware of their own research record keeping to ensure that future generations can access research records in the future.
