Ports Australia Conference, Townsville 26–27 June 2019

Ports Australia

Over 100 industry stakeholders from across Australia attended this event. It was an event hosted by the national (maritime) ports advisory and advocacy association — Ports Australia. Ports Australia covers the 70 State and regional ports operating around the country.

Peter Creeden, an Honorary Fellow of the Centre for Workforce Futures and ex-Managing Director of Hamburg Sud Shipping in Australia, was invited to deliver a paper on Future Trends in Cargo Shipping.

A copy of his presentation can be downloaded.

Peter Creeden’s paper was (in part) a pitch to the audience to “get involved” with the global trends in automation, digitisation of systems and innovative workforce development to meet the new challenges in global shipping. He made a call out to industry to engage with the proposed research consortium being led by Macquarie University and the Australian Maritime College to address key issues in this sector.

Professor Daryll Hull from the Centre for Workforce Futures and Associate Professor Prashant Bhaskar, from the Australian Maritime College attended the conference and further developed the industry networks for the project (under 'New projects 2019').
