Analyzing Dynamic Phonetic Data Using Generalized Additive Mixed Modelling

Professor Martijn Wieling from The University  of Groningen, The Netherlands, visited Macquarie on 3 December 2018 to present a series of seminars and hands-on tutorials on 'Analyzing Dynamic Phonetic Data Using Generalized Additive Mixed Modelling'. The workshop was hosted by Dr Mike Proctor and co-sponsored by the Centre for Language Sciences and the ARC Centre of Excellence for Cognition and its Disorders. Workshop participants from the Departments of Cognitive Science and Linguistics, National Acoustic Laboratories and an HDR candidate visiting from Mexico greatly benefited from Martijn's instruction on the concepts underlying generalized additive modelling and the opportunity to apply generalized additive modelling to time-series data from the speech sciences.
