The third Varieties of English in the Indo-Pacific – English in Contact (VEIP-EIC) conference will be held 16-17 February 2017 at Macquarie University.

It will cover:

  • codeswitching as a linguistic/sociolinguistic phenomenon and language context
  • change – the extent to which it involves conventionalised regional elements or individual repertoires
  • global and regional linguistic epicentres, the contexts in which linguistic influence is exercised
  • Hansard/parliamentary records as diachronic corpora, their value as sources of spoken
  • and written data on colonial and post-colonial varieties of English
  • language policy and education in post-colonial countries of the Indo-Pacific
  • cultural reflections of contact in language innovation and change
  • comparative processes in the emergence of regional and functional varieties of English.

It will also cover strategic planning for international research funding for VEIP-EIC projects.
