The Centre for Emotional Health in partnership with North Ryde Rotary* is pleased to present a FREE community information evening for parents, carers, school counsellors, teachers and other mental health professionals on dealing with depression in youth.

Depression is a common mental health problem during adolescence, and frequently co-occurs with other problems such as anxiety. This presentation by Dr Carolyn Schniering will explore the features of adolescent depression, including:

  • Ways to identify depression in adolescents
  • Personal vulnerabilities to depression and anxiety
  • Treatment options for youth
  • Practical tools and techniques for supporting adolescents with depression

About the Presenter

Doctor Carolyn Schniering is a child psychologist and researcher in the Centre for Emotional Health. Her research aims to increase our understanding of childhood emotional difficulties, and to improve treatment programs for anxiety and depression in youth. Carolyn has developed and evaluated a treatment for adolescents that targets both anxiety and depression simultaneously. It can be delivered as either a face-to-face or online treatment. Her program is one of the few integrated treatments for anxiety and depression available in Australia today.

*North Ryde Rotary Fun Run

The North Ryde Fun Run for Youth Mental Health is a community event organised by the Rotary Club of North Ryde, with venue partner Macquarie University and local community groups.

The 2018 Fun Run will be held on Sunday 26th August from 9am to 12pm at the Macquarie University Sport Fields, corner of Culloden and Talavera Roads, Macquarie Park.The proceeds raised go towards funding research into youth mental health through the Australian Rotary Health organisation and to treatment programs through the Centre for Emotional Health.
