Playground danger: Injury the biggest cause of hospitalisation of Australian children, report finds

Researchers from AIHI have found that injuries are the number one cause of hospitalisation in children aged 1 to 16 years in Australia

Macquarie University researcher Associate Professor Rebecca Mitchell, psychologist and injury epidemiologist, and Professor Kate Curtis, professor of emergency and trauma nursing at Sydney University know the dangers of childhood injuries.

Their report found injuries are the number one cause of hospitalisation in children aged 1 to 16 years in Australia. Mitchell and Curtis are calling on the Federal Government to urgently establish a new national injury prevention plan. The injury report, which was funded by The Day of Difference Foundation has a range of safety improvement recommendations and injury prevention strategies.
