Macquarie University to lead new national Centre for Research Excellence in Digital Health

Macquarie University continues to lead the way in digital health research. The Centre for Health Informatics, Australian Institute of Health Innovation has been awarded $2.5 million by the National Health and Medical Research Council (NHMRC) to set up a Centre for Research Excellence in Digital Health (CRE).

Led by Professor Enrico Coiera and building on the former Centre of Research Excellence in eHealth led by Coiera, the CRE will target major evidence gaps that exist in our understanding of how to successfully implement and monitor digital health in Australia.

The CRE brings together the major Australian centres of health informatics research, with the support of the Australian Digital Health Agency and the Australasian College of Health Informatics.

Investigators in the CRE come from Macquarie University, Bond University Limited, the University of Melbourne, UNSW Sydney, University of South Australia, the University of Sydney and CSIRO.

‘With the availability and quality of big data in health, there has never been a better time to truly make a difference to the healthcare system and the health of all Australians’, Professor Coiera said.
