Advancing social and cognitive health

The Lifespan Health and Wellbeing Research Centre takes a whole-of-lifespan, interdisciplinary approach to improve emotional, social and cognitive health and wellbeing – from childhood through to older age.

We combine expertise across health, psychology, education, ageing, cognition, health economics, digital health, law, policy and more to understand what helps people thrive, prevent problems before they arise and develop effective solutions when challenges occur.

We work with communities, practitioners, organisations and policymakers to turn research evidence into meaningful change.

Shared vision

Our shared vision is to maximise emotional, social and cognitive health and wellbeing for all Australians regardless of age, background, or psychosocial advantage.

Our research priorities

Our current research focuses on three key areas:

  • Mental health across the lifespan
  • Ageing well
  • Digital health

Strategic objectives

Our research aims to:

  • understand the factors that influence emotional, social and cognitive health and wellbeing and identify risks to wellbeing
  • develop and evaluate effective, accessible and cost-effective interventions and practices
  • translate research evidence into practice, policy and systems that improve people's lives
  • give individuals, families, communities, clinicians and organisations the knowledge and tools they need to support health and wellbeing.
