Description

Improving classroom writing by enhancing reflexive decisions and practice.

This Australian Research Council funded project will investigate new ways to improve writing in Australian primary schools. The qualitative project will provide an innovative, reflexive approach for teachers to identify diverse students’ decision-making practices in writing. The team will analyse student writing samples and will document classroom conditions including resources, technologies, expectations, practices and pedagogies that improve or diminish quality writing practices for different types of writers. Teachers will be supported to develop pedagogies that target specific types of writers in context and move beyond dependence building strategies in writing to enable students to make effective decisions for different writing contexts.

The PhD candidate will have the opportunity to work with a team of senior researchers and will collaborate with their supervisors to develop a project within the parameters of the project description.

Applications are open to candidates who have appropriate qualifications and experience in education and/or educational linguistics.
