Aim

MQRIS advances the objectives of the University's Research Strategy 2035 and Faculty Research Infrastructure Plans by investing in the infrastructure that underpins competitive, high-quality research. A supplementary aim is to provide infrastructure resources that will assist in making external research funding applications more competitive.

For 2027, MQRIS is offered as a single scheme, replacing the previous Large and Small offerings. It supports infrastructure underpinning the research programs of individual researchers and research groups as well as infrastructure providing broader research capability at Faculty level, with all applications assessed against the same rules and criteria.

Applications are ranked by Faculties and assessed competitively by a Selection Panel chaired by the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research) against the assessment criteria. Applications not included in a Faculty ranked list cannot be considered by the Panel.

Funding requests are normally between $50,000 and $250,000 for a single item of infrastructure. Each Faculty manages requests within a total funding envelope provided at the time of scheme opening, and it is at the discretion of the Faculty to determine how many applications it will support within that allocation. Questions about the amount you can apply for should be directed to your Faculty Research Office in the first instance.

Further information, including eligibility, eligible and ineligible items, quote and procurement requirements, and reporting obligations are set out in the MQRIS 2027 Funding Rules.
