Creative arts and writing
In ERA 2015, research for creative arts and writing was rated at world standard for the discipline overall as well as for the two sub-discipline research areas of film, television and digital media, and performing arts and creative writing.
Our creative arts and writing research is largely conducted within the departments of Media, Music, and English. Researchers in the departments of Cultural Studies, Communication, and Psychology are also active contributors, reflecting the strong interdisciplinary focus of creative arts research at Macquarie University.
The vitality of our research is shown through significant partnerships with external arts and cultural organisations, and industry end-users. Research strength is evidenced through the competitive selection of works for numerous international festivals, awards and nationally competitive external arts and screen grants.
Macquarie’s creative arts and writing researchers have received:
- an ARC Discovery Early Career Researcher Award
- the Australian Directors’ Guild Award for ‘Best Documentary Feature’
- the Blake Prize
- the Max Crawford Medal
- and the Ned Kelly Lifetime Achievement Award for Crime Writing.
Moreover, our researchers have served on editorial or advisory boards of leading journals, edited book series, and reference works from respected publishers.
