Dr Ross Mackenzie’s work focuses on how the tobacco industry has responded to trade liberalisation to expand its operations in low and middle-income countries as well as its ability to influence domestic and global health governance.
Dr Mackenzie is part of a multidisciplinary international research team funded by the US National Institutes of Health. As part of this team Dr MacKenzie is analysing corporate impacts on global health governance and compiling case studies. Dr MacKenzie is analysing tobacco monopolies in Southeast Asia and assessing the industry’s return to Myanmar. He is also looking at cigarette smuggling.
