Professor Chris Patel continues to cultivate the Department of Accounting and Corporate Governance’s strong reputation for higher degree research in International Accounting. This strength was founded on the pioneering work of the late Associate Professor Jill McKinnon and Professor Graeme Harrison.
Professor Patel’s higher degree research candidates are encouraged to question simplistic assumptions in accounting research, assumptions largely based on technical functionalist perspectives. The candidates are encouraged to examine the theoretical and methodological perspectives from a broad range of disciplines including psychology, sociology, linguistics and politics. This provided them with deeper and more holistic insights into global accounting, accountability, governance policies, and their associated practices.
Professor Patel leads the International Accounting Cluster at Macquarie and provides leadership for the globally strong reputation of International Accounting research at the University. Professor Patel works to create a culturally diverse and enriched learning environment in which higher degree research candidates can develop and grow as researchers.
