Macquarie alumnus Sami Azmol (BComm-ProfAccg 2006) was a Chartered Accountant working as the Finance Performance Reporting Manager of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Sydney Local Health District, NSW Health. He was the beloved son of Golam Azmol and Dr Nahida Azmol, brother of Rafi Azmol and husband to Rekel Ahmed.

When he passed away unexpectedly from a heart attack at only 37 years of age, his family established a prize in his name, the Sami Azmol Prize in Commerce. A plaque bearing his image was installed in the university library at a small ceremony on 9 December 2021 to honour his memory.

Sami was brought up in Baulkham Hills and Bella Vista Waters in Sydney. He  passed away on 6 December 2020. Sami’s death devastated the family and Hills Shire Council community, and the management and staff of Royal Prince Alfred Hospital and Sydney Local Health District of NSW Health.

"We now have peace in our minds that our beloved son, Sami will remain alive within Macquarie University permanently with his legacy," said Golam. “Sharing knowledge and having a positive impact is a legacy Sami left behind. An inspiration for the past, present and future students at Macquarie University.”
