Premier’s Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research
Dr Ashfaq Chauhan has received the Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award at the 2024 NSW Premier’s Awards for Outstanding Cancer Research.

Dr Chauhan, a postdoctoral research fellow, is the coordinator of the Healthcare Engagement and Equity Research stream in the Centre for Health Systems and Safety Research at the Australian Institute of Health Innovation (AIHI),.
The award recognises his work in enhancing patient safety and quality of care in cancer care for people from culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) backgrounds.
Dr Chauhan says receiving the award is a tremendous honour.
“This award highlights that reducing inequity in cancer care outcomes for priority populations such as people from culturally and linguistically diverse communities is an important issue so that health can be improved for all,” he says.
“I would like to thank Cancer Institute NSW for their ongoing commitment to improving health outcomes for people affected by cancer. I would also like to thank Professor Reema Harrison and my other mentors and colleagues, for their support and encouragement, and the consumers who have provided advice and expertise from their lived experience.”
The Outstanding Early Career Researcher Award honours an individual who has completed their PhD within the previous five years, and has demonstrated exceptional research progress and accomplishment.
It was one of eight awards presented by Premier Chris Minns, Minister for Health Ryan Park and Minister for Medical Research David Harris at an event at NSW Parliament on 22 November.
