Alumni give back through words of advice
We recently partnered with Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion to deliver almost 200 messages of support from alumni to Macquarie students.

The Alumni Relations team recently partnered with Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion to deliver almost 200 messages of support from alumni to Macquarie students.
Hundreds of past graduates reconnected with their alma mater, leaving uplifting messages for current and new students through a range of channels including an online form, handwritten postcards and networking events.
This initiative formed a meaningful touchpoint for alumni who enjoyed reconnecting with Macquarie, giving back to the community, and sharing their knowledge and experiences in support of current students.
The Student Engagement, Wellbeing and Inclusion team is working to distribute the messages, ranging from advice on career or making the most of their studies, motivating commentary for stressful periods, welcome messages for new starters, and tailored messages for international students.
“It’s wonderful to see so many former students still engaged with our university and willing to help uplift and motivate our student body,” said Professor Leanne Piggott, Pro Vice-Chancellor and Dean of Students at Macquarie. “We appreciate the consideration of our alumni, and fully embrace this valuable contribution to our student support networks.”
Here are a few messages:
- “You are in the driver seat for your future, sounds cliched, but dream big now and you are to the power of us! Best of luck!”
- “Always say yes to a good opportunity, you will figure it all out later!”
- “Your network is as valuable as your knowledge. Invest in both, and the returns will last a lifetime.”
- “Work smart, play hard, enjoy every single moment here.”
- “Warami Hello! Lifelong learning can never be a mistake. Step by step… walanga-muru follow your path. In Dharug language we say yanamawa budyari gumada, which means walking together in good spirit.”
- “Embrace every opportunity, stay curious and don’t be afraid to step out of your comfort zone. Macquarie is where you start shaping your future.”
