Youth-focused dementia carer support
Y-Care is Australia’s first national network dedicated to young carers of a loved one with dementia.
Y-Care of Dementia
In Australia, with younger-onset dementia affecting around 29,200 people aged 30-64 – a number that continues to grow – the generation of carers is becoming younger too.
Yet most dementia support services are still designed for spouses in their 50s and 60s, leaving young adults caring for a parent or grandparent unseen and unsupported. Many face isolation, limited tailored education and a lack of spaces where they can share lived experiences with people their own age.
Y-Care is Australia’s first national network dedicated to young carers of a loved one with dementia. We offer monthly meetups that blend peer connection with practical, real-world learning, as well as global knowledge exchange through partnerships like Lorenzo’s House in the U.S.
Since launching, we’ve grown by 700% to 70+ members and have been featured in major outlets including The Sydney Morning Herald, ABC, Women’s NSW Instagram and The Conversation – proof of both the need and momentum for youth-focused dementia carer support.
