  7. Webinar: the quest to solve the Zodiac 340 cipher

You're invited to join us for this rare opportunity to hear about how Dr Sam Blake, along with a three-person international team, solved the Zodiac cipher.

The Zodiac 360 cipher

The case of the Zodiac killer is one of the most widely known unsolved serial killer cases in history. The Zodiac murdered five known victims and terrorised the state of California. The Zodiac also communicated extensively with the press and law enforcement.

In addition to his murders, the Zodiac was known for his use of ciphers. The first Zodiac cipher was solved within a week of its publication, while the second cipher was only recently solved after 51 years. This lecture details the historical significance of this cipher and the large-scale cryptographic efforts which culminated in its solution.

Dr Sam Blake, an applied mathematician, has a PhD in mathematics from Monash University and is a research fellow at University of Melbourne. Sam's research interests include spread spectrum watermarking, cryptography, machine learning and symbolic computation.
