It’s Privacy Awareness Week!

Novel and exciting technologies are emerging at a rapid pace, but often our private information is the price of admission. Data privacy breaches happen
every day that have exposed the personal information of millions of people. Malicious adversaries have become extremely devious and technologically
savvy, which makes privacy protection a highly challenging task. Fighting fire with fire, computer scientists at the Macquarie University Cyber Security Hub investigate ways of using information Technology as a weapon to prevent data privacy breaches while leveraging the enormous opportunities that information Technology brings in.

Embracing the discipline in both theoretical studies of provable privacy preserving algorithms and practical applications of privacy- aware and secure systems, Dr Dinusha Vatsalan has been conducting research in privacy enhancing technologies (PETs) leading to more than 60 articles in PETs published. Dinusha is passionate about knowledge transfer and making a positive impact on the society through her research. She has led highly impactful industrial/government projects on privacy-preserving record linkage (PPRL) including with the Australian Department of Social Services and IXUP Limited, Australia, as well as with OpenTreatments Foundation, USA to link rare disease patients for improved awareness and treatments for rare diseases. Big data continues to evolve, so does research in PETs, and Dinusha is thriving to explore novel impactful research.

Here at Macquarie University Cyber Security Hub, our passion is research into the world of cyber and data security and we have an extremely talented team.  Check out our many amazing papers and publications.
