More than 3300 graduates will receive their degrees, diplomas and certificates in Macquarie University’s September 2018 graduation series over a two-week period.

During the ceremonies two exceptional students will receive medals – one for molecular science and one in physiotherapy – for meritorious work.

Macquarie has also awarded honorary doctorates to those people who have made an exceptional contribution to their field.

On Tuesday 25 September, an honorary doctorate was awarded to The Hon Justice Brian Preston SC: “It is a special privilege to be awarded an honorary degree by my alma mater, Macquarie University. True to its motto, Macquarie University did gladly teach me. My contributions and service to the law and public life have been inspired and enabled by my teachers,” said Justice Preston.

Also receiving honorary doctorates is Dr Liz Ellis AO, Dr Shekhar Dinanath Narvekar (N Chandra), Professor David J Mabberley AM, Emeritus Professor Ross Street and Dr Peter Moran.

Sportsperson Liz Ellis said she was proud to receive an honorary doctorate:

“I feel incredibly proud and humbled about being awarded an honorary doctorate by Macquarie University. Macquarie University is where I completed my BA/LLB, and I look back on that time with great fondness. I am grateful for the opportunities presented to me as a result of the education I received at Macquarie University and I look forward to returning to speak to the students on their graduation day,” said Dr Ellis.

Macquarie expects up to 10,000 people to be on campus for graduations over the two-week period.
